Electromagnetic force

How it works:

The exhibit shows the strength of electromagnetic force. Once you step under the electromagnet and grab the handle, you can pull down with all your weight and it won’t let go, until you step out of the base. Optical sensors on both sides of the gate detect one’s presence and turn the magnet on. After it’s turned off, the handle will hang on an elastic cord.

How it’s made:

The exhibit consists of a stable base, with steel gate, 1,7 m tall. In the upper part of the gate, there is an electromagnet, capable of holding up to 200 kg. On both sides of the gate there are optical sensors, activating the electromagnet when a person walks under the gate.
