How it works:
The exhibit has three air blowers. If you place a ball in the air-stream, it will stay in approximately the same position, relative to the blower. This allows for changing the position of the ball, using the blower only. It’s happening because of the pressure drop in the region of fast moving air in the stream. The goal is to guide the ball through all three rings, without dropping it on the floor, using just the air blowers.
How it’s made:
The exhibit is situated on a massive plinth, made from lacquered MDF boards. It’s 1,5 m wide and 750 mm tall. In the central part, there is a steel construction, supporting three rings and the three air blowers are situated around it. Power supply and air pump components are hidden neatly under the base.
