The exhibit designed and manufactured specifically for Hevelianum science centre in Gdansk. Suitable for high school graduatees and beginner college students. At the exhibit a series of tasks, calculations and a report is to be done. The system consists of a single-phase DC electric motor, with a 7 kg load steel plate attached to it’s spindle. Above the steel plate there is a frictional element, connected to a measurement plate, on which measurement weights are placed. The whole system is controlled with a touchscreen.
The experiment goes as follows:
Firstly the rotational speed of the motor is investigated, using a strobe light. Then one of the weights (1, 2, or 3 kg) is placed on the measurement plate. The rotating mass starts to slow down, until it comes to a complete halt. All the the important information is shown on the screen. The goal is to determine the correlation between forces occuring in the phenomenon.
